“De Stad - la Ville” by Frans Masereel. Frans Masereel (31 July 1889 – 3 January 1972) was a Flemish painter and graphic artist, especially known for his woodcuts. His works depict the rise and fall of the industrial revolution (the creation, the labour, the glory, the excess, the despair/social unrest, the depression… ending in WW2) viewed through the goggles of the common man.
